Suga, a member of the K-pop supergroup BTS, has tested positive for COVID-19 after returning to South Korea from the U.S. on Thursday, according to a statement from the group’s management company.
In a statement obtained by Rolling Stone, officials with Big Hit Music said the 28-year-old, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, tested negative for the viral infection before traveling to the U.S. Upon his return to South Korea, he self-quarantined and on Friday learned he had COVID-19, according to the company.
As of Friday, he was isolating at home with no symptoms of the viral infection, The New York Times reported.

Suga had been in the U.S. for unspecified “personal engagements” after BTS performed several shows late last month in California, according to Rolling Stone.
“There was no contact with the other members” of BTS, according to the statement from Big Hit Music. “We will also diligently cooperate with the requests and guidelines of the healthcare authorities.”

Earlier this month, officials with Big Hit Music said BTS was taking a break ahead of the anticipated launch of the group’s next album in March.
Suga quarantined Thursday in line with a mandate from South Korean officials that requires international travelers to quarantine for 10 days after arriving in the country, regardless of vaccination status, CNN reported. Suga had gotten his second COVID-19 vaccine dose in August, according to the Times.
