Amazon is adding a fuel surcharge to the fees sellers pay.

The fee, which is due to rising gas prices, will affect third-party sellers who list on Amazon, CNBC reported.

The charges apply to sellers in the U.S. and Canada who use Amazon to fulfill orders and will start on April 17. There will be an additional 17 cents per unit, based on fulfillment fees, not the final sale price.

The surcharge will apply to third-party sellers who ship their own items starting May 2, Bloomberg reported.

“Elevated costs in fulfillment and logistics have increased the cost of operating across the industry,” Amazon said in a memo to sellers on April 2, according to CNBC. “We have absorbed these increased costs so far. However, similar to other major carriers, when costs remain elevated, we implement temporary surcharges on our fulfillment fees to recover a portion of the actual cost increases we are experiencing.”

Amazon has about two million third-party sellers on its marketplace. to start charging

The company is not the only one charging a fuel surcharge. The U.S. Postal Service plans to start charging a surcharge on packages on April 26 through mid-January, Bloomberg reported. UPS and FedEx also instituted a surcharge since the start of the war in Iran, CNBC reported.
