Yes, that was how our hunt for shark teeth ended on Saturday but I have to say it was a thrill to see my friend Lorie find one - about ten minutes before we had to leave. I had promised the trip as a birthday present but our original Saturday was way too cold. But about those three beaches. It’s pretty well known that from Venice Beach and south is the best area for the hunt. Think the “Sanibel Stoop” but with mesh attachments to scoop up buckets of shells to carefully comb through for that prized tooth, or teeth if you’re lucky. Sorry to say that Venice Beach was not looking good due to erosion - there’s a sign before you get on the beach warning you. Casperson Beach a little more south was about the same. But then we headed a little further south to Manasota Key.
Beautiful area with plenty of traffic on such a beautiful day but that’s where one problem came up. With no mask ordinance in Sarasota County, the beach was very crowded with no masks. So I stayed on the relative safety of the boardwalk while my masked guests headed down the beach. About 45 minutes later, success. Blind Pass Beach is wonderful beach but we unfortunately arrived late enough in the morning that parking was available with a bit of a hike. But all in all, it was fun. The view alone made my day and just getting out of town was fun. So if you’re in mood for a new Ann-Venture and want to search for beautiful shells and shark teeth, I say go for it. Life’s too short for not taking Ann-Ventures!
