Tomorrow is National Tooth Fairy Day, actually, one of TWO Tooth Fairy Days each year, because apparently even mythical creatures need multiple holidays. And business is booming!
According to Delta Dental, the average payout for a lost tooth jumped 17% this year to $5.84. That’s up a whopping 349% from the $1.30 average back in 1998. Plus, nearly a third of kids are now getting an actual gift in addition to, or instead of, cash.
Boy, when I got an upgrade from a 50-cent piece to a whole silver dollar under my pillow, I thought I had it made!
The good news for parents is that the Tooth Fairy apparently has some negotiating power: 35% say the tradition encourages their kids to take better care of their teeth and 33% of kids even go to bed early when they’re expecting a visit.
Although at almost six bucks a tooth, I’d be in bed early too!
Be right back... gonna ask my niece how much she got the last time the Tooth Fairy paid a visit. I need to know the current family rate before inflation hits another incisor!
