On this day in music history, PRINCE started a 5-week run at #1 on the US singles chart with his song, When Doves Cry.
It was Prince’s FIRST #1 US HIT SONG!
And it was the lead single from his sixth studio album, Purple Rain. It went on to sell over 2 million copies!
The music video, which was directed by Prince, premiered on MTV in June 1984. Remember how it started with white doves emerging from the double doors - and then you see Prince in a bathtub!?
