On this day in music history, Prince started a 24 week run at the top of the US album charts with Purple Rain.

Purple Rain was his sixth studio album - featuring hits like When Doves Cry and Let’s Go Crazy.

Plus, the title track Purple Rain sold over 20 million copies worldwide!

It became the 7th best-selling soundtrack album of all time!
